api 5l grade gr.b x42 x52 carbon steel pipe API 5L
Generally speaking, API 5L refers to API 5L line pipe, which is out of the ground the oil, gas, water, transported by pipeline to pipe oil and gas industry companies. according to the manufacture process and the tube bloom used different shapes, api 5l can be divided into api 5l seamless steel pipeand api Welded Steel Pipe, among the usage quantity of welded steel pipe is more than Seamless Steel Pipe. Surface conditions, imperfections and defects a) All pipes shall be free from defects in the finished condition. All pipes shall be free from cracks, sweats and leaks. b) Laminations or inclusions extending into the face or bevel of the pipe and having a visually determined length in the circumferential direction > 6.4 mm (0.250 in) shall be classified as defects. (Shall be rejected or cut off.) c) For other than dents, geometric deviations (e.g. flat spots and peaks) that exceed 3,2 mm in depth shall be considered defects. (Be cut off or rejected.) d) For dents, the length in any direction exceed 0,5 D or the depth exceed 3.2(for cold-formed dents with sharp-bottom gouges) or 6.4(for other dents) shall be considered defects. (Be cut off or rejected.) e) Any hard spot larger than 50 mm, if its hardness exceeds35 HRC, 345 HV10 or 327 HBW, shall be classified as defects. (Be cut off or rejected.) f) Imperfections that have a depth <0,125 t and do not encroach on the minimum permissible wall thickness shall be classified as acceptable imperfections. (May remain or be cosmetically dressed-out.) g) Imperfections that have a depth > 0,125 t and do not encroach on the minimum permissible wall thickness shall be classified as defects. (Smoothly dress-out, or be rejected.) h) Imperfections that encroach on the minimum permissible wall thickness shall be classified as defects. (Be rejected.) Type of inspection | PSL 1 pipe grade (SMLS) | PSL 2 pipe grade (SMLS) |
Heat analysis | One analysis per heat of steel
Product analysis | Two analyses per heat of steel (taken from separate product items)
Tensile testing of the pipe body | Once per test unit of pipe with the same cold-expansion ratio
CVN impact testing |
| Once per test unit of pipe with the same cold-expansion ratio |
Hydrostatic testing | Each pipe
Visual inspection | Each pipe, but may be replaced by other inspection methods that have a demonstrated capability of detecting surface defects.
Pipe diameter and out-of-roundness | At least once per 4 h per operating shift plus whenever any change of pipe size occurs during the operating shift
Wall thickness measurement | Each pipe
Other dimensional testing | Random testing, with the details left to the discretion of the manufacturer
Weighing of pipe with D < 141,3 mm (5.563 in) | Each pipe or each lot, with the choice being at the discretion of the manufacturer
Weighing of pipe with D>141,3 mm (5.563 in) | Each pipe
Non-destructive inspection | In accordance with Annex E. EMI/UT/MT or a combination is required just for L245 (B)(Q+T). For grades base on agreement. | In accordance with Annex E. EMI/UT/MT or a combination is required. |
